We regret to announce the death of one Neon Sign Transformer. A post-mortem revealed one leg of the winding shorted to the core. Repair was impossible due to epoxy resin potted construction. Probable cause of death: extreme overvoltage due to use of a Resonant tank capacitor and inadequate safety gaps.
What now? Another NST? Microwave oven power? Or even an electronic switching power supply? It all depends on what I can scrounge up.
